ASMR

So I want to talk about something a little different.  I want to talk about a world of creativity which does involve writing, but not necessarily anything that I have to do.  I’m going to talk about some videography, in particular, a group of videos I have found on youtube.  Why?  It’s going to go down a rabbit hole, but follow me on this one.
Auto Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is kinda hard to explain.  There are these “triggers”, which are usually done in a soft-spoken environment, which cause “tingles”.  These triggers are certain sounds which can be pleasing or calming to the ear.  And the tingles are the resulting chills that travel the body.  These are not chills of the frightening nature, these are chills more along the feel-good variety.
I’m nowhere near qualified to explain ASMR.  It’s complicated since each person has their own unique trigger.  It’s complicated since not everyone gets the tingles.  So for someone outside the ASMR community, it’s very easy to misunderstand and misconstrue what is happening.
Furthermore, there is a group of ASMRtists (People who create content intended for listeners to experience the tingles), who take the ASMR and sexualized it.  It’s not my thing to listen to blatantly sexual ASMR videos out there.  But I understand why people do it.  A lot of ASMR content is very personal and very vulnerable.  With ASMR (along with other forms of entertainment/recreation), there are subcategories; one of those subcategories is personal attention.  The tingles that people receive are often linked to pleasure.  These videos often gather more views (since when has sexualizing something not gotten more attention?) and thus encourages ASMRtists to then create more sexually suggestive content to compete in the business.
Now, as stated, I’m not down for the sexualized ASMR.  I’ve seen a few videos.  It really is borderline pornography with how the video is filmed and edited.  The subcategory I am most interested in is the stories people tell.  Specifically, the role-plays and the character and the story-driven ASMR videos which are not sexualized beyond rational belief.
Why?  First off the writing is superb.  The amount of world-building I have seen in some of the videos I have watched has utterly amazed me.  Writing such a script, being able to produce tingles and interest in the world they have created, is so damn cool.
Secondly, I”m a lover of fantasy.  Particularly in the form of the stories that I consume.  So getting tingles and being in a fantasy world is so utterly cool for me.  Whether that be in the form of high fantasy or urban fantasy.
